6th December 2025: BABRI MASJID, THE INDIAN DIASPORA & HINDU NATIONALISM

UK-IMC invites you all to an important and insightful discussion entitled “Babri Masjid, the Indian Diaspora and Hindu Nationalism”. The event will take place on 6 December 2025.

This discussion is especially timely given the growing influence of ethno-nationalist Hindutva ideologies in the UK—imported and fuelled by India’s far-right groups leveraging the country’s rising geopolitical presence. These movements undermine India’s democratic fabric through targeted campaigns of dehumanisation, crackdowns, and state-sanctioned persecution of Muslims and other minority communities.

The demolition of the centuries-old Babri Masjid was a watershed moment that continues to shape political and social dynamics globally. Join us to understand how this ideology threatens Britain’s tradition of coexistence and contributes to rising Islamophobia in the country.

For this session, we have invited Dr Edward Anderson, Assistant Professor in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Northumbria University, and Senior Fellow at the South Asia Institute at SOAS University of London. He is the author of the recently published book Hindu Nationalism in the Indian Diaspora.

22 January 2024 : Babri Masjid is the present, not the past

In this conversation, UK-IMC enlightens you about the dark side of the Ayodhya Temple inauguration by Narendra Modi's Hindu supremacist government.

The demolition of Babri Masjid, once considered a turning point in the rise of Hindu nationalism and an assault on India's secular fabric, has undergone a paradigm shift in narrative under the BJP government and tacit support across the political spectrum.

To delve deeper, UK-IMC in collaboration with Strive UK, held an online talk.

Dr.Kalpana Wilson, author and activist, explored the uprisings of 1857 in which Hindus and Muslims united against British colonialism, particularly in Ayodhya. She discussed the colonial origins of Hindutva and how it is being challenged.

Renowned journalist Ajit Sahi spoke on his personal experience of covering the Babri Masjid demolition as a former Indian journalist and Hindutva’s ongoing war on Muslim lives in India.
