What privileges does an IMC rating add?

 

IFR in all airspace classes D,E,F,G. This is limited to the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. Takeoff and landing require a surface reported visibility of at least 1800m.

For VFR, it removes the UK PPL(A) requirement to be always in sight of the surface.

For VFR, minimum in-flight visibility is reduced from 3km to the ICAO VMC standard of 1.5km

For a Special VFR clearance, minimum flight visibility reduces from 10km to 3km
